A little bit about us

Michael Jackson and Joseph Malaro, both Temple University Architecture program graduates, created En-Motion Design Inc in 2008. It is a yin and yang relationship as the two have much to learn from the other. En-Motion Design will rise inside of the challenge and confrontation between an outgoing, passionate craftsman, and a quietly intense steel fabricator.

En-Motion Design is a full service Architecture, Design, and Fabrication firm. En-Motion Design was born to explore the marriage of historic architectural design and building stock with contemporary ideas of detailing, materials, and aesthetic. Our goal is to enrich people's lives through their engagement of these spaces that challenge and excite conventional understanding of what it means to habit space.

We believe that good design springs from an intimate and first hand understanding of materials and methods, and an open mind focused on pushing those conventions further. The Thinking of design cannot be separated from the Making of Architecture.

Michael Jackson

Michael graduated from Temple in 2002 with a Bachelor degree in Architecture. Michael has always been fascinated with all aspects of building, spending his summers in between semesters demolishing buildings, hauling chimney flues and CMU for masons, doing finish paint work, building facades, and tinkering with furniture. In his 3rd year at Temple he took a course called The Art of Detailing; which involved the design and building of a small café in the lobby of Temple's Architecture/Engineering building. During the course Michael learned how to arc weld, and his love for metals was born. The course irrevocably changed how he thought about design and construction. After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Temple, he was hired by one of the primer Architecture/Design/Metal Fabrication firms in the east coast, Veyko Inc. During his 6 years with the firm his ability to craft in metal was challenged, developed, and refined.

Josheph Malaro

Joseph's passion for furniture design led him to pursue a future in architecture. He too graduated from Temple in 2000 with a degree in Architecture. He's always had an eye for detail, favoring building with his hands instead of the computer. His vision of creating details came from a class (The Art of Detailing) that introduced Joseph to the possibility of applying his artistic perspective to custom detailing. During his 4th year of school he began working in the field for a design/builder enhancing his knowledge of construction and his ability to solve complex construction problems. After a year working closely with a master cabinetmaker Joseph decided to pursue his architectural degree and gain experience working for an architectural firm. Again, his passion for furniture and small-scale details informed his design work at a larger scale, resulting in interiors that were artistic and innovative. In the last 4 years Joseph has been continually honing his facility to bring the craft and attention required to create beautiful furniture to the scale of residential and commercial spaces.
